Karl Grimmer (above left) is retiring after a 29 year career with the Griffith Police Department, including serving as Chief of Police for the past thirteen years. Griffith Police Lieutenant and Executive Officer Ron Kottka (above right) will become the new Police Chief effective Monday, June 26. On June 9, 2006, Sgt. Nicholas Rentas (left) and Sgt. John Messinio (right) are all smiles after successfully completing the School of Staff and Command, an intensive, ten week long program under direction of Northwestern University, Center for Public Safety. Above are Officer Aaron Pollock (left) and Lieutenant Don McCarter (right). At the April 12, 2006 Police Commission meeting, Officer Pollock was presented an award from the Lake County Traffic Safety Council in recognition of his efforts in arresting DUI drivers during year 2005. In the above photo, Lake County Sheriff Roy Dominguez (left) presents an Outstanding Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement award to Griffith Police Officer Michael Gauler (right) at the Public Information Officers Award Banquet on March 24, 2005. Officer Gauler was given the award for his efforts in apprehending a bank robber. While on routine patrol on May 11, 2005, Officer Gauler observed a suspicious subject enter Citizens Bank in Highland on 45th Avenue. After a few moments of observation, he watched the subject run to his car and flee. Officer Gauler began to follow the subject when the Highland Police were notified that the subject had just robbed the bank.
